Bala Nandgaonkar
Loksabha constituency - Mumbai South

Termed as a giant killer after his victory over the supposedly indomitable Chhagan Bhujbal in 1995, Bala recognises only one religion, and that is love for and commitment towards Maharashtra, irrespective of ones’ religious calling and native place. A true Maharashtrian!
Bala has been sent on study tours to various international cities like Dubai, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Vietnam and China by the Maharashtra Government. This has helped form a vision of a prosperous Maharashtra in Bala’s mind!

Social Work:

Bala is known in every household in Mazgaon as a sensitive people’s representative. He has been actively involved in social service through various public and cultural projects, as well as helping people on a personal level, whether it is by supporting patients for health care, distributing notebooks and uniforms to needy students or helping students to get admissions without having to pay donations.
Bala made the Diwali festival truly memorable for innumerable impoverished families in Mazgaon by organising fairs before the festival that made available essential commodities at extremely reasonable prices.
He was instrumental in ensuring the provision of basic amenities to the slums dwellers living on the land owned by Mumbai Bunder Vishvasta Mandal. Bala also appealed to and persistently followed up with the Chief Minister and the concerned Minister in the Central Government to sanction the rehabilitation of these slums.
Bala organised eye check-up camps through the Empathy Foundation. Through these camps, approximately 8000 citizens were donated eye glasses and 200 were operated for cataract.
Bala is a sports fan and loves cricket, carom and Kabaddi. He has strived to promote these games in his constituency. He also served as the President of the Maharashtra State Carom Association between 1997 to 2001.

Political Work:

Bala Nandgaonkar has a substantial eighteen years of experience of representing the people. Bala started his public life as the President of the Ganesh Utsav Mandal, Mazgaon – Tadwadi, and since then, has been consistently serving the State for the last twenty-five years in various categories, from a simple worker to a Home Minister.
A senior leader of Maharashtra NavNirman Sena, Bala has represented the Mazgaon constituency in the State Assembly for a third consecutive term since 1995. He was also recognized as the Best Legislature in the State Assembly.
During his tenure in the State Assembly, Bala handled the office of Maharashtra’s Home Minister (Rural) in 1999 for four months. Even in this short tenure, he achieved success in bettering the condition of the Police force.
Bala was also a good Corporator in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (1990-95). During his tenure, equipped with a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, he led an agitation at the Mumbai airport to rename the terminus after the great King. He also served as a member of the Education Board (Municipal Corporation) for a while.
